President's Letter 2011-12
A note from the President….
The Loveland Stage Company has a rich tradition of presenting high quality theatrical performance in the Loveland community. We are fortunate that we are in a community with such incredible hard working and talented people. Our success comes from the outstanding members who share their talents and put in countless hours for every production, and of course our wonderful patrons and sponsors who continue to support our theater and shows. Thanks to all of you we are now entering our 32nd season and I am very proud that this is going to be a season of Firsts.
Our 2011-2012 season kicked off with the highly successful children’s workshop presentation of Gilbert and Sullivan’s classic “The Mikado”. This was the first time LSC had presented this show and it was led by first time director Glenna Knapp and produced by Ginger Kroenke. We are very proud of being able to continue our tradition of conducting a children’s workshop, teaching the next generation not only what its like to perform on stage but also the inner workings of a theater and the importance of the back stage activities.
This fall we are offering another first – “Funny Girl”. Directed by Mark Woods, “Funny Girl” is the romantic musical classic about the Broadway film actress and comedienne Fanny Brice. This show will bring together the very successful award winning team of Jack Hasty (music director), Marjory Clegg (choreographer and assistant director) and Helen Gosh (producer). We are very excited to bring this show to life for the first time on our stage - “Funny Girl” opens November 4th.
Christmas time is always exciting in Loveland and once again our community will celebrate the season on December 17th with “Christmas in Loveland”. Every year down town is turned into a winter wonderland full of holiday music, food and entertainment. We are very happy to be participating once again in this year’s festivities as Pat Furterer leads a talented group in our original, first time presentation of “Frosty Follies”. This show 45 minute show will be presented 3 times through out the day and free to the public. We hope you will join us celebrate the season with this wonderful, toe tapping show. Did I mention it was Free?
Our season continues in March with another first time production. Opening on March 9th we will be presenting a hilarious, satirical American classic – the Mel Brooks Smash musical hit “The Producers”. The Broadway production won more “Tony” awards than any show in history and we are excited to be bringing it to the Loveland Stage. This comedy follows Max and Leo as they attempt to swindle millions from investors by producing the “worst show on Broadway”. This show promises non-stop laughter with big musical numbers.
Our season will close in May with another first for the Loveland Stage Company. Connie Hatfield will be directing one of the most enduring and classic musicals of all time – “The Fantasticks”. This beautifully sentimental musical is the longest running show in history and has an outstanding book and score. You won’t want to miss this product that opens on May 11th.
We feel we have a very exciting and entertaining season and there is something for everyone. As you can see – every show will be a first for the Loveland Stage Company. It is only with your support that we are able to continue bringing high quality productions to the Loveland Community. I hope you enjoy the season.
